A scarcer type with an inverted K incuse under shield. The obverse with the first leaf to the centre of E in DEI and with a stop after REX. ESC type C/2b.

These coins were struck over Spanish Colonial 8 Reales coins. In this case much of the legend of the underlying coin is visible, the date 1800 is visible between 3 and 4 o clock on the obverse. The mintmark cannot be determined (this would be around 11 o clock on the reverse).

There is a light engraving to the obverse, the letters ‘H B’ being engraved in either of the obverse fields and dated ‘1805’ to the bust. This suggests the coin is an earlier issue as these coins were struck until at least 1811 (despite all being dated 1804). Otherwise a high grade coin with excellent detail.

Diameter: 40mm, Weight: 26.9g, Material: .900 Silver.
